Columbia Journalism School Spring 2021 Global Visiting Fellow Kadir van Lohuizen will present his comprehensive photographic and journalistic examination of the human toll of rising sea levels. Kadir will be joined by distinguished panelists to discuss the questions: Are we doing all we can with all the knowledge we’ve got to prevent large-scale disaster? Should humanity start preparing for the biggest displacement of people in known history? And what should the role of journalism be in local and global communities?

Panelists are: Jeff Goodell (Author and Contributing Editor, Rolling Stone), Amalinda Savirani (Associate Professor, Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta, Indonesia), Marjan Minnesma (Co-Founder / Director Urgenda, Dutch organization for innovation and sustainability), Anote Tong (Former President of Kiribati). Moderated by Prof. Nina Alvarez.

This virtual panel event marks the launch of a new installation of photographs by Kadir van Lohuizen / NOOR, currently on view at The Forum. The Deluge: On the human costs of rising sea levels, features photographs illustrating the consequences of climate change in communities across the globe. It will be on view through June 30, 2021.
