6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Event time is displayed in your time zone.
The Forum: 605 W. 125th Street

The Forum is pleased to partner with the Harlem Chamber Players to present “Women of the Movements,” a special Women’s History Month performance and celebration of women composers. This LIVE concert will welcome the return of public events in The Forum’s Atrium which, due to the pandemic, has been closed to visitors for the past two years.

This open-to-all event will feature musical pieces by four female composers: Nkeiru Okoye (Three Movements and We Met at the Symphony), Beata Moon (Flowing from Quartet No. 2), Tania León (Esencia), and Florence Price (Quartet in G Major). Notably, the performance of Okoye’s We Met at the Symphony will be the world premiere of the complete triptych, with both the second and third movements being performed for the first time.

The hour-long program will culminate in a dynamic conversation with composers Tania León and Nkeiru Okoye, moderated by Harlem Chamber Players Director, Liz Player.

The string quartet will feature these members of the Harlem Chamber Players: Claire Chan, violin; Ashley Horne, violin; William Frampton, viola; and Wayne Smith, cello. Soprano Jasmine Muhammad will sing.

This event is free and open to the public. We encourage you to RSVP at the link below.

Beginning March 14, masking in Columbia buildings is optional. Currently, Columbia University health guidelines require that all visitors show proof of vaccination upon entering Columbia buildings. These protocols may be updated and changed before the event, so please check back prior to the concert date.
